Sangita Magar Interview



An unidentified gang attacked two school girls with acid at a tuition center in Basantapur, Kathmandu on Sunday.

The victims identified as Sangita Magar and Sima Basnet were studying at a tution center in Jhochhen when four masked men barged into the room and splashed acid on them.Magar, a permanent resident of Khaniyapani in Ramechhap district, is said to be in critical condition while Basnet’s condition is stable. Both are students of Shanti Nikunja School at Maruhiti in the Capital and were preparing for the SLC examinations.Magar is undergoing treatment at KMC Hospital while Basnet is admitted to Bir Hospital.Magar’s father said the perpetrators broke into the tution center’s room and attacked the girls. “Three other girls and my daughter were studying on their own after their teacher was late to arrive in the class. The attackers entered by breaking the door and threw acid at them,” Magar’s father told eKantipur.Magar’s family members were also irked by the delay in the treatment of their daughter in KMC Hospital. She didn’t not receive proper treatment even five hours after the attack, they said. Magar has suffered chemical burns in her chest and legs while Basnet had sustained injuries to her face.The victims said that police did not reach on time to rescue the girls. Basnet had to reach her home to pour water in the attacked part. The motive behind the attack remains unknown.
