Scores of people gathered today at Maitighar Mandala of Kathmandu to mark the Dhaka Topi Day.The gathering organised by the Jagaruk Yuwa Abhiyan Nepal started at 7 am today with youth donning Dhaka topis on their heads and chanting slogans to preserve the national identity amid the growing westernisation among the youth.The mass then converted to a rally and marched towards Naya Baneshwor.People, mostly youth, had gathered through social media platforms to show their solidarity for the cause.For the past three years, some youth campaigners have been marking the New Year of the Gregorian calendar as the Dhaka Topi Day.This year the day was marked with the theme of ‘Hamro Shaan, Hamro Pahichan: Nepali Topi Abhiyan’ (Our Pride, Our Identity: Nepali Topi Campaign) demanding for daura, suruwal and Dhaka topi to be re-established as the national dress, informed the Abhiyan’s Coordinator Ghanashyam Shrestha - See more at: http://www.lightnepalvideo.com/videos/power-news-youth-mark-dhaka-topi-day-in-call-for-identity/#sthash.C5SH6aR9.dpuf
