Police arrested singers—Prashna Pandey and Deepak Baraily, on Wednesday on the charge of spreading rumor in social sites about them receiving phone call in red digits.
A team of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police arrested them for spreading rumor in facebook and twitter, who had said mobile users receiving a call from telephone number in red colour would risk their life.
Singer Pandey shared status in facebook saying she received phone call from red number of Ncell. Negative news was disseminated in different online on the basis of the status.
No evidence was found of receiving call from red number in course of investigation by police.
It was also revealed that Singer Baraily had made it to display the telephone number in red by downloading an app from google.
Meanwhile, at a press conference today, the Bureau has urged all to not go by rumours of the red phone number. Chief of the Bureau DIG Nawaraj Silwal said the rumours that one would die if the phone call with red telephone numbers was received were baseless.
At the press conference, Singers Pandey and Baraily accepted and apologized for their mistake, which they claimed were unintentional. They were released this evening with the condition of reporting back tomorrow, according to the Bureau
